At Delft we decided to put the Science of modern animal breeding to the test using the world's most advanced genetic evaluation system.  Though we only purchased the very best we also needed an objective way of improving our cattle.  We thus made a conscious decision to deliberately follow a selection policy based on Estimated Breeding Values (EBV's).

DELFT HAS COME OF AGE

Delft Simbra started in 2007. It seems like yesterday. Our 2011 production sale was a huge success. Delft’s performance at the 2012 Royal show and our International Show at Parys (Click here to read more) is equally noteworthy. It is however the demand for our cattle in the market place and the number of clients that continue buying from us that gives stature to the statement “DELFT HAS COME OF AGE”.

We now have over 600 registered Simbra Stud Animals. Our productive female herd has grown to 370 animals and we have 12 outstanding stud sires.

Our breeding objectives are sound; we follow a selection policy based on Estimated Breeding Values (EBV's). The contribution of this selection policy is reflected in the improvement in our weaning weights.

Simbra cattle breeding is about beef production. We spend most of our time and efforts on improving the beef production capability of our herd. Structural correctness and the functionality of our cattle are non-negotiable and we apply high and strict selection criteria.

Delft is also actively involved in the Recapitalisation Program of the South African Government. We are working very closely with beneficiaries to establish them as successful commercial farmers. The good news is that we are progressing well and that we are achieving outstanding results.   Click here to read more.

Delft is always active in the market buying quality Simbra Bulls. During the course of 2011and 2012 we have bought five outstanding Stud Sires. We bought PAX MAN096B from Oosie Strydom the owner of Talerman Simbra Stud. At the Blazing Ahead auction we bought Gold Bar DM08210C a KAMAB bull and Texan RIC085 from R2K, an up and coming Simbra Stud breeder. Delft also bought a corrective breeding bull from Thys Meyer of Loveday Boerdery. This bull is appropriately known as Zinmeyer Vorster ZM0753. We are also proud to announce the acquisition of an exceptional bull Stefmar Kolskoot FM0945C bought from C Derkson Trust. We bought this bull at a new SA record price of R350 000. Tobonama and Hendazee Simbra studs are co-owners of this bull. The sire of this bull is Prevail and the dam a Jared daughter. What a combination.

We are harsh on the bulls bred by ourselves. Be assured that the selection criteria applied to our own bulls are even more stringent than that applied when buying bulls. We have selected two bulls from our own breeding as stud sires. Renegade DTM09167C and ZEPPELIN DTM10166B are two exceptional bulls and compliment our other Stud Sires. They were also the Reserve Junior Champion and Reserve Calf Champion at the Simbra International Show in 2012.

Our 2013 breeding season is upon us. This year we will spend more time on and give more attention to the selection and mating of bulls and cows. We will consider lessons learnt from previous mating results and pay particular attention to the best use of our newly recruited Stud Sires. BREEDPLAN “Mating Predictor” is one of the management tools that add tremendous value to this process.

Delft is always active in the market. If you have quality animals to sell or you are looking for a proven stud sire... Do not hesitate to contact us.

Despite the traits being somewhat antagonistic, all bulls and cows at Delft were selected on EBV for high weaning, yearling weight and moderate birth weight...

A new South African record for a Simbra Bull.
